This is the honest road version of a short Bwindi journey. Four days create a two-stage outward route through western Uganda, a full gorilla day and a private return to Entebbe. The final day remains long; we disclose that rather than pretending Bwindi is close to Kampala.

Why travel by road?
The road reveals the transition from Lake Victoria’s basin to cattle country, rolling highlands and the steep cultivated slopes around Bwindi. A first night near Lake Mburo breaks the outward drive and gives the route a reason beyond transport. This programme suits guests who value the landscape between places and are comfortable with a long return day.
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1 — Entebbe to the Lake Mburo region
Leave Entebbe after breakfast in a private 4×4. Cross the Equator region and continue into western Uganda’s open cattle country. Arrive near Lake Mburo with time for a late-afternoon guided walk or short drive if conditions and timing allow.
Day 2 — Lake Mburo to your confirmed Bwindi sector
Continue south-west through changing farmland and highland country. The driver-guide follows the route appropriate to your permit sector; Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga and Nkuringo require different approaches. Arrive with enough daylight to settle in and prepare wet-weather equipment.
Day 3 — Gorilla tracking in Bwindi
Transfer to the UWA trailhead for ranger allocation and the pre-trek briefing. The forest decides the length and character of the day. Once the gorillas are found, follow the ranger’s instructions closely and experience the permitted viewing period without expecting a staged photograph.
Day 4 — Bwindi to Entebbe
Depart early for the private drive to Entebbe, normally a full travel day with comfort stops and lunch en route. We recommend an Entebbe hotel that night rather than connecting directly to a tightly timed international flight. Guests who prefer less road can replace this day with a scheduled flight for a supplement.
Price and inclusions
From USD 2,450 per person sharing for two guests. This premium private-road price includes a dedicated WAE vehicle and guide, three nights with stated meals, one gorilla permit, the stated Lake Mburo activity, drinking water and operating support.
International flights, visa, insurance, porter fee, tips, drinks, personal purchases and an optional domestic flight are excluded.
Permit, sector and health note
The permit is secured before the lodge. The latest publicly available UWA tariff listed USD 800 for a foreign non-resident gorilla permit; the current tariff and sector are reconfirmed before deposit. UWA health, age and ranger rules apply. Do not travel to the trailhead with a contagious illness.
