Zanzibar

A complete private Tanzania journey linking Tarangire, Ngorongoro and two well-chosen Serengeti regions with Stone Town and the Zanzibar coast. The safari follows the landscape west; a scheduled flight then removes the long backtrack and changes the pace from wildlife to the Indian Ocean.

Journey at a glance

  • Fifteen days and fourteen nights from Kilimanjaro to Zanzibar
  • Private northern-circuit safari with a dedicated 4×4 and guide
  • Tarangire, Ngorongoro and four Serengeti nights
  • Scheduled flight from the Serengeti to Zanzibar
  • Stone Town context followed by three restorative coast nights

Day 1 — Arrive at Kilimanjaro and transfer to Arusha

Meet the WAE team at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to Arusha. Rest, check luggage and meet the safari team without rushing into a park after a long-haul flight.

Day 2 — Arusha recovery and preparation

Keep a quiet day at the lodge or add a short, locally guided activity. The purpose is to begin the safari rested and to resolve practical details before the road journey.

Day 3 — Arusha to Tarangire

Drive to Tarangire and enter for an afternoon game drive. Baobabs, riverine woodland and seasonal wetlands make this a strong first landscape rather than a brief stop between Arusha and the Serengeti.

Day 4 — Tarangire in depth

Spend a full day with your private guide. Dry-season wildlife often concentrates around the Tarangire River; greener months bring different birdlife, light and distribution. Pace the day around useful early and late field time.

Day 5 — Tarangire to the Ngorongoro highlands

Travel towards Karatu and the crater highlands. Pause around Mto wa Mbu or the Rift Valley when the confirmed activity adds genuine context. Stay in Karatu for gardens and value or near the rim for position; the quotation explains the trade-off.

Day 6 — Ngorongoro Crater

Descend early for a complete crater drive through grassland, marsh and forest. Return to the highlands for a second night rather than combining the crater and a long Serengeti transfer into one rushed day.

Day 7 — Ngorongoro to central Serengeti

Drive west through the conservation area and into the Serengeti. Gate procedures and sightings make this a safari day as well as a transfer. Reach central Serengeti for two nights.

Day 8 — Central Serengeti

Use a complete day around the Seronera river valleys and kopjes. Permanent water supports resident predators and plains game, providing a dependable foundation even when the migration is in another region.

Day 9 — Move to the seasonal Serengeti region

Move north, west, south or east only when the month and current conditions justify it. This may mean northern Serengeti during the broad dry-season migration period, the Western Corridor during its seasonal movement, or the southern plains and Ndutu in the green season.

Day 10 — Full day in the seasonal region

Spend a patient final field day. We do not guarantee a river crossing or any wildlife event. The guide balances migration possibilities with the resident animals, birds and landscapes that make the Serengeti worthwhile throughout the year.

Day 11 — Fly from the Serengeti to Zanzibar

Transfer to the appropriate airstrip and fly by scheduled light aircraft to Zanzibar. Flights may make intermediate stops and use strict soft-bag limits. Meet the island team and transfer to Stone Town or directly to the coast according to the confirmed design.

Day 12 — Stone Town and Zanzibar context

Explore Stone Town with a licensed local guide, focusing on the island’s Swahili, Indian Ocean and trading history rather than treating it as a quick photo stop. A spice-farm visit can be added when it is responsibly run and fits the transfer to the coast.

Days 13–14 — Zanzibar coast

Two full days for the beach and Indian Ocean. Reef, dhow, diving or snorkelling activities depend on tide, wind and sea conditions. The north, east and south-east coasts have different tidal patterns and atmospheres, so the hotel is selected around how you want to spend these days.

Day 15 — Departure from Zanzibar

Transfer to Zanzibar International Airport. The pickup time is set from your international or domestic flight and the actual drive from the chosen coast.

Frequently asked questions

Are safari park fees included?

Yes. The planning prices include the stated national park and Ngorongoro conservation fees. The final quotation itemises accommodation, transfers, the internal flight and all included fees.

Why fly to Zanzibar?

The scheduled flight avoids returning overland to Arusha, preserves a full island stay and creates a natural change of pace after the safari.

Which Zanzibar coast is best?

That depends on whether you prioritise swimming conditions, reef access, diving, quieter beaches or restaurants. WAE chooses the hotel area after discussing the season and your preferred pace.
