Why this journey works
The order follows Kenya’s geography and the available air network. Road travel is used where it reveals the country—Nairobi to Amboseli and Nairobi/Wilson to the central highlands—while scheduled flights connect the distant southern, northern and western ecosystems. Three Amboseli nights, two Ol Pejeta nights and four Mara nights give each destination a clear purpose and avoid the rushed two-night pattern common in generic circuits.

Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1 — Nairobi to Amboseli
Meet your guide and drive south from Nairobi into increasingly open, dry country. Kilimanjaro begins to shape the horizon as you approach Amboseli. After lunch and time to settle in, take an afternoon drive across the pans and toward the wetlands, where elephants, buffalo and waterbirds gather as the heat leaves the plains. Meals: Lunch and dinner. Overnight: Amboseli area.
Day 2 — Amboseli: mountain light and elephant families
Start before the landscape fully wakes. On clear mornings, the snow-capped mountain appears behind moving herds, while predators finish their night activity along the grassland edge. Spend time at the marshes watching elephants feed and communicate, then rest through midday before a second drive in warmer, more dramatic evening light. Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Overnight: Amboseli area.
Day 3 — Amboseli beyond the postcard
Use a second full day to explore beyond the familiar viewpoints. Conditions may favour the western plains, seasonal lake margins or acacia country. Slow observation reveals the details: calves learning where to place their feet in the wetland, egrets following herds and dust hanging behind zebra at sunset. The route is chosen from current movement and visibility. Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Overnight: Amboseli area.
Day 4 — Amboseli to Ol Pejeta via Wilson and the central highlands
Transfer to the airstrip and fly to Nairobi Wilson Airport. Continue north toward Nanyuki and Ol Pejeta by the best confirmed connection for your date—private road or scheduled air service. This planned combination is more comfortable than driving the entire southern-to-northern distance in one push. Arrive on the Laikipia plateau for dinner and a first sense of Mount Kenya country. Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Overnight: Ol Pejeta Conservancy.
Day 5 — Ol Pejeta: rhino country
Spend the day exploring Ol Pejeta’s open plains and conservation story. Early and late game drives focus on rhino, elephant, buffalo, lion and northern Kenya species that occur in the wider landscape. Include a conservation visit according to operating hours; specialist activities can be reserved in advance. The experience adds context to the wildlife rather than treating conservation as a slogan. Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Overnight: Ol Pejeta Conservancy.
Day 6 — Nanyuki to Maasai Mara
Transfer to Nanyuki airstrip after breakfast. Fly directly to the Maasai Mara when the seasonal timetable operates, or connect through Wilson Airport. On landing, meet your private guide and begin game viewing on the way to camp. The shift from high plateau to rolling grassland is immediate, and the evening drive introduces the Mara at its gentlest hour. Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Overnight: Maasai Mara.
Day 7 — Maasai Mara: tracks before breakfast
Leave early while the night’s tracks are still legible. A stare from a herd, circling vultures or hyenas moving in a straight line can lead to the morning’s story. Your guide will choose between a picnic day and split drives according to distance and activity. The private vehicle makes it possible to stay quietly when a sighting becomes more interesting with time. Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Overnight: Maasai Mara.
Day 8 — Maasai Mara: plains, rivers and patient observation
Explore a different habitat: open cheetah country, the wooded drainage lines favoured by leopard, or the Mara River corridor in the season of great herds. Wildlife is never staged and sightings cannot be promised. The advantage is time—four Mara nights let the safari absorb a quiet morning without forcing the guide into frantic movement. Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Overnight: Maasai Mara.
Day 9 — Maasai Mara: your final full field day
Use the final full day intelligently. Return to a pride whose cubs have become active, follow elephants into new country or spend the morning photographing smaller subjects in clean light. An optional balloon safari can be arranged in advance at additional cost. Close the journey with one last evening on the plains and a relaxed dinner at camp. Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Overnight: Maasai Mara.
Day 10 — Maasai Mara to Nairobi
Take a final early drive if flight timing allows, then transfer to the airstrip for the scheduled flight to Nairobi Wilson Airport. The safari ends with an optional onward transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or a Nairobi hotel. Meals: Breakfast.
Your safari rhythm
Each chapter has its own field language. Amboseli is about early mountain light, elephant families and wetland ecology. Ol Pejeta adds rhino conservation and a more intimate Laikipia scale. The Mara closes the journey with four nights, flexible picnic days and enough time to wait for behaviour rather than merely locating animals.
Transport and timing
Private road transfer Nairobi–Amboseli. On Day 4, scheduled flight Amboseli–Wilson, followed by a private road or scheduled air connection to Nanyuki according to the confirmed timetable. On Day 6, fly Nanyuki–Maasai Mara directly when the seasonal service operates, otherwise connect through Wilson Airport. Day 10 returns by scheduled Mara–Wilson flight. All timings are reconfirmed for the date of travel.
