Setting and safari character
The camp sits above the river in a landscape where doum palms and riverine woodland meet dry northern scrub. Early drives can quickly reach productive habitat along the Ewaso Nyiro, while longer circuits explore open country for the region’s distinctive northern species.
Because it is inside the Reserve, the primary activity is vehicle-based wildlife viewing. This is an advantage for guests prioritising classic game drives, but travellers wanting night drives and substantial walking should add a community conservancy.
Tents and camp life
The raised ensuite tents provide private verandas and the atmosphere of sleeping under canvas. Shared areas include a pool and spaces suited to family downtime. The operation is larger and more structured than an owner-run bush camp, which can be useful when a group contains different ages and interests.
Guests should choose it for location and practicality rather than expecting the seclusion of an exclusive-use camp. A private vehicle can restore independence for families, photographers and anyone who prefers flexible departure times.

Getting there
Light-aircraft flights from Wilson Airport serve the Samburu region, followed by a road transfer through the Reserve. We confirm the current landing point, transfer time and luggage limit with the operating supplier. The drive from Nairobi is possible but uses most of a day.
Road access is worthwhile when Samburu follows Mount Kenya, Ol Pejeta or another Laikipia property in the same private safari vehicle. Flying is stronger for a short family itinerary or for a direct Samburu–Mara connection.
What to combine it with
Combine Intrepids with Ol Pejeta for rhino conservation, a Mara conservancy for a contrasting grassland ecosystem or Sasaab for community-conservancy activities. A coast extension works particularly well for families after several early safari starts.
